Intern CLE Podcast - Episode 008 – University Hospital – Christie Beder
Today, University Hospitals is one of the nation’s leading health care systems, providing patient-centered care that meets the highest standards for quality and patient safety and have received numerous awards and recognition from some of the most prestigious institutions in the country for our leadership and exceptional patient outcomes. As an accountable care organization, we foster long-term patient-provider relationships that help promote preventive care, increase wellness and healthy behaviors, decrease emergency episodes, and prevent hospitalizations.
Over 600 employees in IT at University Hospitals. The internship program Christie runs less than 2 years old and is a small part of the greater overall hiring at UH. They have hired 4 students out of the internship program so far. Originally the program was started as a pipeline for talent, but they filled many of those open spots. They provide a challenging IT experience to students looking for experience in the IT field.
There are 7 paid internship positions that run year-round. Interns serve a 3-month rotation. After the 3 months you can leave UH or possibly move to another department in IT. This is a good opportunity for a student looking to find the area in IT they have a passion for.
Day to day experience – Quarterly lunch and learns for the interns – someone from the organization comes and presents their role at UH. Interns get meaningful work within their group. The technology learning comes through chair to chair learning.
