Summer on the Cuyahoga – Program to attract talent to Northeast Ohio and provides interns to employers. The program also provides programming for the interns with the goal to encourage students to understand Cleveland’s highlights and challenges. About 70 students per summer. The program has been around for 17 years.
According to Alayna Klco, Director of Business Development, Flashstarts is a business incubator helping entrepreneurs get their businesses up and running. Has been partnered with Summer on the Cuyahoga for some time. They have found that the students provided by Summer on the Cuyahoga bring talent and skills to their company. Flashstarts recruits from a variety of schools and Summer on the Cuyahoga is one of those sources. Interns at Flashstarts have been hired by some of the start ups as well. Alayna studied at CASE and interned at Flashstarts herself and eventually joined the Flashstarts team.
Khue Ngo is a 2nd summer intern at Flashstarts who graduated this year from Denison Univeristy. Khue is from Vietnam. Her career goal is to find a full-time position in the venture capitol or banking space in Cleveland. Khue credits her previous internship with a venture capital firm and her on campus involvement with getting her the opportunity at Flashstarts.
