Lubrizol Interview -

https://www.lubrizol.com , https://www.lubrizol.com/Careers , https://www.lubrizol.com/Careers/Student-Learning

Jenna Perpar is a recruiter for Lubrizol in their University Relations and Early Career Team.  This is her first summer with Lubrizol.  Her love of the company and enthusiasm for this summer is so evident in this interview.

Lubrizol has been around for over 90 years.  Lubrizol focuses on specialty chemicals and advanced materials (polymer science).   They are a global Billion-dollar company. There are opportunities in business, sales, marketing, HR, finance and of course the sciences.

Lubrizol offers a variety of student experiences.  Full year, co-ops, summer internships, etc.  The internship is a talent pipeline.  Their CEO was a co-op 30 years ago, so there is strong support for their student outreach at the top levels of the company.

There were 115 students this summer.  Some are co-ops and some are just summer internships.  Avon Lake, Painesville, Brecksville and Wickliffe are some of the local Lubrizol locations.

What is Lubrizol looking for in their candidates.  Jenna referenced the book The Ideal Team Player.  In this book, candidates must be humble, hungry and smart to succeed in your organization.  Jenna and her team are looking at how they can incorporate these concepts into their interview process.  Being pretty self-motivated is important as well.

Lubrizol’s co-op can be 3-6 rotations in 12-week segments.  Some of the annual internships are full time in the summer and part time during the school year.

The Success Factors tracking system is used by Lubrizol to track job requisitions, internal job postings, performance reviews and more.

1st day orientation – Jenna likes to have some fun with this. Orientation focuses on culture, systems and any of those very basic questions interns may have.  The program managers who work with the interns also go through training that was internally developed.  Lubrizol uses a buddy system for interns, pairing them with someone on the Lubrizol team that has something in common with the student.  Students did a cookout this year with members of the executive team this summer.   The students went to a Captains (baseball) game as well.
